Overview:
Whiteroom is fueled by our ethos of ‘Powder, Culture, Adventure,’ with this role being a key position in the sales team helping our clients secure their dream Japan snow adventure. A successful candidate will combine their love of snow travel with sales and administration work throughout the year in a full-time position based in Niseko, Japan.
To succeed in this role, you will need to have a demonstrated sales ability, a clear passion for skiing and snowboarding alongside a love of Japan. Having a deep understanding of Japan, being lateral thinking with the ability to multitask are key skills required during the booking and operational seasons.
Combining a friendly and approachable mindset with strong communication skills will be essential for not only our staff but also for the upkeep of the highest standards of customer service whilst being efficient and technologically savvy.
An ideal candidate will be a person who wishes to work within a close-knit team of travel and snow professionals in a fast-paced dynamic environment to create and deliver amazing experiences for our clients.
We are looking for a Sales Consultant, ideally with industry experience to join our dynamic team.
Essential criteria:
- Current skier or snowboarder having traveled to Japan to ski or snowboard, preferably Hokkaido.
- 2/5+ years experience in selling Japan ski holidays or tours.
- Exceptional customer service and proven sales abilities (2/5+ years).
- Organisational and time management skills. Efficient.
- Strong eye for detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a close team environment.
- Highly developed and efficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Highly desirable skills and experience:
- Japan snow travel industry experience in wholesale or retail.
- Knowledge of and experience selling Japanese travel.
- Experience in developing tailor-made itineraries.
- Japanese language skills.
Sales Consultant Responsibilities and Duties:
- Sales:
- Tour sales.
- Creating custom private guided/instructed packages specific to client’s needs/desires.
- Reaching and exceeding sales targets
- Secure new client sales and retention through customer service provided.
- Booking administration:
- Confirm tour and package bookings for your client (Whiteroom products: tours, guiding, instruction, and rental. Other products: transfers, accommodation, rental, lift passes, restaurants, etc).
- Liaise with clients to make sure all required services have been included in their package, if not book the remaining products/services.
- Ensuring correct client information is in Whiteroom’s tour booking systems.
- Send travel documents before the clients depart their home country.
- Auditing:
- Audit client bookings and information files and if incomplete contact the client to update.
- Audit booking forms and follow-up clients who are yet to complete.
- Whiteroom communication:
- Effectively communicate with the sales team to make sure all bookings are correctly made and finalised.
- Complete requested tasks assigned by the team and clearly communicate work that has been completed along with any questions or concerns along the way.
- Communicate with management when common errors are occurring across the sales team so updated training can be performed.
- Work closely with Niseko and Furano Base Coordinators and their Guest Services teams to communicate last minute tour and private package client information additions and/or changes.
- Work closely with senior managers and directors, guest services and the other full time staff to create clear lines of communication from the booking process to the delivery of product.
- Client Communication:
- Be the first point of contact for clients’ questions about their tour or package.
- Give assistance to any client when asked.
- Look for ways to foresee client requests in order to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Answer office phone and return voicemails where required.
- Provide customers with information, such as mountain statistics, weather history, current snow conditions, local customs, points of interest, and special events occurring in various locations, or foreign country regulations, such as consular requirements and currency limitations.
- Finance:
- Create and send payment links and receipts to clients.
- Collect deposits and final payments from clients.
- Audit invoices to make sure they are correct before requesting accounts to make payment.
- Other:
- Participate in ongoing Whiteroom training sessions to constantly update your own personal knowledge of all Whiteroom products as well as auxiliary services.
- Maintain and follow appropriate occupational health and safety plus regulatory requirements at all times.
- Represent Whiteroom in a positive light as an employee of the business both during work and in your personal time.
- Look for and communicate opportunities to promote the future growth of Whiteroom brand.
- Any other tasks as required.
Skills and Attributes:
- A passion for skiing and snowboarding with a strong knowledge of the Hokkaido region is preferred.
- Previous experience in the outdoor or travel industry is preferred.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- High level of computer and administrative skills.
- Clear customer service-focused mindset.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Be able to work independently and problem-solve.
- Be adaptable – while we plan for a smooth running operation, unforeseen situations can arise.
- High level of self-motivation.
- Bilingual - English fluency essential & Japanese preferred but not necessary.
